UAB Medicine’s Cardiovascular Institute (CVI) is one of the largest centers of its kind in the nation and a leader in advanced treatments for cardiovascular disease. Established in 2019 to manage the delivery of cardiovascular services across UAB Medicine, the CVI aligns the clinical specialties of cardiology, cardiac surgery, vascular surgery, cardiothoracic anesthesia, and heart transplantation to deliver optimal patient care. It is consistently ranked among the top 50 programs for cardiology and heart surgery by U.S. News & World Report, which also recognizes our program as “high-performing” in areas such as abdominal aortic aneurysm repair, aortic valve surgery, heart attack, heart bypass surgery, heart failure, lung cancer surgery, and transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR).
